Make the Most of Your Summer!
We are in the midst of summer and the time is right for doing something new. A lot of activities are limited right now, but we can’t let that stop us from having a little fun. What better way to guarantee an enjoyable summer than making a summer bucket list? Not just any old bucket list, get creative and check off all those things you may or may not have ever thought of doing before. This is your chance to get out of your comfort zone, learn a new talent, or even make a fool of yourself. Either way, it will make for a great memory and story. What would be on your summer bucket list?
Not sure where to start? Here are a few ideas to spark your creativity.
Get Rolling
No, I don’t mean hopping in the car and going for a drive. I’m suggesting you literally get on some wheels and go! Feel the breeze in your hair and on your face with a whirl on a bike, roller skates, Segways, or even a skateboard.
My husband, who is an avid indoor roller skater, has taken up outdoor skating. Besides a mild crash into the neighbors’ mailbox, he has really taken to it. My neighbors’ son offered to teach me how to skateboard and I plan on taking him up on that offer post delivery…stay tuned for that one. Regardless of what you choose, just make sure you’re safe. Take proper precautions and wear any necessary safety gear like helmets, knee pads, and wrist guards.
Keep in mind, this is a fun activity to get your energy levels up, to release your inhibitions, and to feel good! Still a little apprehensive? Take a few sips of my mocktail, Ginger Lemon Sipper and feel the good energy flow.
Let Music be your Muse
We all love music. It soothes the soul, right? Well why not step up and join the band by learning how to play an instrument. That’s right, you can finally live out your Band Camp dreams!
I know it may sound complicated and challenging, but learning an instrument from the comfort of your own home is actually quite accessible. Start by purchasing your instrument of choice online. I hear learning is very easy with either books or online tutorial videos. You can also search online for local music teachers who are offering lessons through video chat or video conferencing apps.
Even if playing an instrument is not your thing, you can still become one with the rhythm by moving your body and learning a new dance. Whether it’s salsa or merengue, maybe even a new dance challenge, let the music move you! Just think, when we’re finally able to gather together, you’ll be the talk of the party with your smooth new moves.
Pitch a Tent
Ah, the great outdoors! Quality time with family, campfires, roasting marshmallows, and story-telling.
Camping seems like a lot of fun, but I personally have never done it because I have concerns. Sleeping on the ground, bugs, and let’s not even get started on using the bathroom…do you see where I’m going with this? Now is the time to get over myself and just go for it!
Now, there are levels to this camping thing. The Platinum Level of camping is going RV style. Those things are nice! Fully-loaded with all the amenities is my kind of camping. Rentals are going like crazy, so you want to act now.
There’s also old-fashioned outdoor tent-pitching and sleeping under the stars. It may seem uncomfortable, but if you pack all the right things, I think you’ll be good to go! Make sure you have bug repellent, a flashlight, an inflatable mattress, good camping eats, and a bottle of wine.
There’s one last level of camping, which is where I think I’ll start. Tent-pitching, but in the living room with my daughter. Don’t judge me just yet! I really plan on setting the mood: hanging twinkle lights to look and feel like stars, a s’mores bar with assorted toppings, and most importantly lots of love and laughs.
Learn the Language of Love
I’ve tried learning a new language before, but it was an utter failure. I didn’t have the time or level of dedication to see it through. Now things are a little different, my schedule has freed up a bit, and I am ready to go back in. Traveling to France has always been on my bucket list of life. As soon as travel is allowed, I want to go! In preparation, I’m working on my French. Check out language apps, CD’s, and online videos. I started with a kid’s study guide and actually learned a lot.
No matter what you decide to do with your summer, try to be intentional about making the most of it!
